Myrna MarstonMyrna Marston, Chief Executive Officer
Myrna Marston founded Marston+Marston in 1997 in an entrepreneurial effort to explore new and better ways to reach public audiences on important issues facing San Diegans. One of Marston's first clients was the information services division of the aerospace company Lockheed Martin. Marston developed a countywide public relations campaign for Lockheed Martin that would ultimately transition over 60,000 families off of welfare and into the workforce. Billed "San Diego Works," the public relations campaign resulted in the program becoming a model for the City of San Diego and established M+M as a leading San Diego public relations agency.

Under Marston's leadership, M+M's client list grew and the agency has provided public relations counsel to top-tier organizations including San Diego State University, the San Diego Chargers, the County of San Diego, the City of San Diego, PG&E National Energy Group, Calpine Corporation, Duke Energy, and a variety of non-profit organizations that provide humanitarian assistance to the poor.

In 1999 the U.S. Small Business Administration named Marston+Marston "Business of the Year" for the firm's public education campaign regarding the passage of welfare reform and its effects on the people of San Diego.

Prior to founding the agency, Marston held the position of assistant director to the 1996 Republican National Convention in San Diego. Working as deputy for Chairman Gerry Parsky and Director Jack Ford, Marston was responsible for orchestrating media and outreach for official host committee events, including "Conversations with Elizabeth Dole," which aired live on C-Span and "An evening with Henry Kissinger." Marston was also responsible for general media communications for the host committee and advance work for Elizabeth Dole's public appearances in San Diego.

Marston's career in public relations began with her appointment in 1993 as an aide to San Diego Mayor Susan Golding. Working for Mayor Golding, Marston served as confidential assistant to the Mayor overseeing scheduling, staff advance, communications and speechwriting.

Marston is active in local business, civic and community affiliations and is committed to providing pro-bono services to charities in San Diego, including United Way/Chad, Episcopal Community Services, Balboa Theatre Foundation, and Ben & Jerry's Partnership for STRIVE San Diego.

Jeff Marston is president and government relations director for Marston+Marston, Inc. Marston's background in, and keen understanding of, both public relations and public policy has allowed him to fully integrate the two. Marston brings many years of community relations expertise and a proven track record of working with people of very diverse opinions throughout a given decision-making process.

Prior to joining his wife, Myrna, Marston spent seven and a half years as senior vice president of another San Diego-based public relations firm. In his last three and a half years there, while his clients, projects and assignments were quite varied, Marston spent the majority of his time serving as the lobbyist for the City of San Diego in Sacramento.

Before his employment there, Marston was a member of the California State Assembly representing San Diego's 78th District. While in the State Assembly, Marston served on the Committees on Education, Housing and Community Development and Revenue and Taxation. Since 2001, the City of San Diego has again retained his services to help represent the City's interests in Sacramento and to serve as the liaison to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager and senior staff relative to California state issues.

Marston was a legislative aide and field representative for the late U.S. Senator S.I. Hayakawa in Washington, D.C. and San Diego and served on the staff of both Congressman Duncan Hunter and former San Diego City Councilwoman Gloria D. McColl. In these capacities, Marston specialized in legislative and policy analysis and community relations, including liaison work on the Mid-City Community Plan, Mid-City Redevelopment and the 40th Street/Route 15 extension project. Marston also spent nearly two years with the public relations firm of Roni Hicks & Associates, where he participated in, among other things, the organization and presentation of the equestrian endurance event for the 1984 Olympic Games, held at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in San Diego.

Marston was appointed in 1994 by Governor Pete Wilson to serve a six-year term as a member, and subsequently two-term chairman, of the California Postsecondary Education Commission, (CPEC). He was later appointed to represent CPEC on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Marston was also appointed by Governor George Deukmejian to be a member of the Advisory Board of the Commission of the Californias and serves on the California Conservation Corps Community Advisory Board. Marston is board chairman of the Ambassadors for Higher Education at San Diego State University and chairs the College of Arts and Letters chapter of the SDSU Alumni Association.
